Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav finally scored a half century against New Zealand in the second T20I in Raipur. India were chasing a target of 209 and the Indian captain led from the front scoring 82 runs of just 37 balls and was unbeaten in the end. This was Suryakumar's first half century after 23 innings and 468 days. The last time he got a half century in T20I was against Bangladesh in 2024.

It has been a very tough in the last few years for Suryakumar as his numbers were not good enough. He averaged less than 25 and his strike rate was less than 120 in the last year. With the World Cup coming in just under a month it was important for him to get some runs under his belt. This innings will give him plenty of confidence going into the main events.

Surya anchored India’s 209-run chase against the Kiwis, finishing unbeaten on 82 off 37 balls as he scored four sixes and nine fours and striking at a rate of over 221. India chased down the target in just 15.2 overs which was their joint-highest successful chase in T20Is.

India won the second T20I match against New Zealand by seven wickets. They chased down a target of 209 and have taken a 2-0 lead in the five match series. The third T20I will be played on Sunday.
