Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is all set to make his way back into India’s ODI lineup after successfully passing all fitness tests at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. The all-rounder had to sit out parts of IPL 2026 due to back spasms, but now he’s been given the thumbs up for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. This is a huge boost for the team management, as Hardik not only completed full match simulations but also bowled his full quota of 10 overs without feeling any discomfort. This successful assessment not only confirms his recovery but also bolsters India’s preparations as they gear up for significant white-ball challenges, including the 2027 ODI World Cup.
According to a BCCI source as per reports, “Hardik was on a holiday abroad before he checked in at the CoE on June 2. Over the next five days, he did several match simulations and even bowled (full quota of) 10 overs.”

Hardik checked into the CoE on June 2 after a break abroad. Over the next five days, he went through rigorous fitness and workload evaluations. The Sports Science and Strength and Conditioning teams kept a close eye on his progress. His fitness data met all the necessary standards, and the standout moment from the assessment was his ability to bowl a complete 10-over spell.
Sitanshu Kotak Optimistic About Hardik Pandya’s Recovery
Even before the final clearance came through, India’s assistant coach Sitanshu Kotak was already feeling optimistic about Hardik’s recovery. Although he didn’t have the latest medical update at that moment, Kotak mentioned that the all-rounder seemed to be making good progress. Now, the CoE results have confirmed that initial assessment.
This successful return is especially important because Hardik’s bowling workload has faced a lot of scrutiny in recent years. During the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, he only bowled 24.3 overs over five matches and didn’t complete his full quota in any of those games. So, his recent fitness test really shows that he’s ready to take on the physical challenges of 50-over cricket again.
Further reports from the CoE have reported, "There has been no discomfort and the information is that his fitness data for various parameters has been okayed by Strength and Conditioning coaches at the CoE."
Pandya’s presence is a game-changer for India as they gear up for the 2027 ODI World Cup. As a true pace-bowling all-rounder, he brings a unique balance to the team that’s hard to find. His knack for making an impact with both bat and ball gives the squad more options when it comes to team selection and game plans.

The stats really highlight his importance. In 94 ODI matches, Hardik has racked up 1,904 runs with an average of 32.83 and an impressive strike rate of 110.89. He’s also taken 91 wickets, just nine shy of hitting the 100-wicket milestone. With 11 half-centuries under his belt and a reputation for finishing innings on a high note, he’s undeniably a vital player in India’s white-ball lineup.
