Amanpreet Singh Gill, a former professional cricketer and administrator, passed away on May 6, 2026, at the age of 36. His death came after a six-month battle with a serious illness, which was confirmed by his longtime coach Bharat Vij. Amanpreet was a right-arm medium-fast bowler known for his ability to swing the ball effectively. He was a standout performer in the 2007 Under-19 tri-series in Sri Lanka, taking 9 wickets in 5 matches, including a decisive 2/14 in the final against Bangladesh. He played alongside future stars like Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey.

He was part of the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) squad during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. While he shared a dressing room with legends like Yuvraj Singh, Mahela Jayawardene, and Brett Lee, he never received an opportunity to play in the XI. He represented the Punjab state team in the Ranji Trophy between 2006 and 2008, appearing in six first-class matches and taking 11 wickets. After his playing days, Amanpreet transitioned into administration and talent scouting. He served as a member of the Punjab Senior Selection Committee for multiple terms, including the current 2024-25 season.

The passing of Amanpreet Singh Gill on May 6, 2026, has deeply affected the Indian cricketing community, particularly within the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). Amanpreet passed away in Chandigarh at the age of 36 after a six-month battle with a serious illness. In a poignant show of solidarity, the Punjab Kings squad wore black armbands during their high-stakes IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Owners and management expressed their grief, noting that the entire "Punjab Kings family" was standing with his loved ones.

He was credited with identifying many of the young local players who now represent Punjab in domestic leagues and the IPL.

His cremation was held at 4:00 PM on the same day at the Manimajra Cremation Ground in Chandigarh, attended by several former and current cricketers.
