Known for her batting talent and transgender advocacy, Ananya Bangar, who’s undergone a life changing transformation, literally speaking, is a passionate follower and practitioner of the game of cricket and someone who, much like tens of thousands of the others from around the world, wishes to make something noticeable and worthy of her natural talent. The 25 year old young and upcoming cricketer has already made her mark as a former Under-19 Mumbai cricketer but it can be now said with certain confidence that the moment she’d have waited for pretty much all her life, one connected to greater attention from the wider world, is all set to arrive. And that’s in the imminent future!

So the big question is what is that moment for the talented left handed batter and bowler of spin? Well, apparently and more power to her really, she’s been given a clear green signal by none other than Cricket Australia to play the sport Down Under. But there’s a catch.  

It’s community cricket that she can continue to play at this point in time, however, where it comes to the bigger and more prominent competitions such as the elite competitive leagues such as Big Bash League, then she will have to fulfil a particular testosterone- related eligibility criteria in order to emerge as an athlete that’s good to go for the brief and world renowned cricketing franchise competition.

Now it has to be said that what is confusing and perhaps even bewildering at this point in time as the very fact that the keepers of the game which is the ICC do not really have a transgender friendly policy in place, which allows different athletes such as Ananya to compete in recognise international Cricket Team competitions. However, that is not the case, but it comes to Big Bash league as one notes.

But confident and excited by the recent prospect given the WBBL, the following is how Ananya exclaimed her excitement about playing in Australia

“It is a great day for me, especially after knowing the fact that I can play cricket. There was a stage when I thought I would never play cricket again, but thanks to Cricket Australia, it has given me another chance!”

The hard-working athlete had been in touch with BCCI to whom she even wrote last year enquiring of a chance to play, but hasn’t had a reply as of yet.

Maybe a future as a cricketer belongs in another part of the world and where all signs point to, for now, it seems it’s Australia.
