
Australian captain Alyssa Healy announces retirement, upcoming India series will be her last
Australian captain Alyssa Healy has announced her retirement from cricket. The upcoming series against India will be her last assignment. Before that Healy is set to represent NSW in the Women’s National Cricket League across the next month for the final time to prepare for the India series, but she has played her last match for the Sixers. She will not be part of the T20 squad but will play the ODI and Test for one last time against India.
Her decision to skip the T20s gives Australian coach and Healy’s captaincy successor the maximum opportunity to prepare for the T20 World Cup with just six games remaining (three v India followed by three away v West Indies) before their tournament opening match on June 13. Healy will play all three one day matches against India and the WACA Test will be her 299th and final international for Australia, calling time on her illustrious career.
Alyssa Healy has been one of the most prolific wicket-keeper in the women’s international game with 269 dismissals to date across the three formats (24 in 10 Tests, 119 in 123 ODIs and 126 in 162 T20Is). She has played 10 Test matches and scored 489 runs at an average of 30.56. Her highest score is 99, she has also scored 3 half centuries. In the ODIs she has represented them in 123 matches scoring 3563 runs at an average of 35.98 and a strike rate of 99.72. Her highest score is 170 and she has scored 7 centuries and 18 half centuries.
She has played 162 T20I matches and scored 3054 runs at an average of 25.45 and a strike rare of 121.79. Healy has been part of seven World Cup wins (one ODI, six T20I) and a Commonwealth Games gold medal since making her debut in both white-ball formats in February 2010. She recently led Australia to a semi final in the previous World Cup where they suffered a defeat against India. Healy has been one of the key player in world cricket and she has had an illustrious career.
