Nothing in cricket, absolutely nothing, much like any other modern day competitive sport, can ever be left to chance. Which is why when concerns over balancing the franchise responsibility with respect to participating in one’s national team strike, absolutely unbeknownst to a cricketer or his team, as they always do, all you can ever do (whilst waiting perhaps with a unwelcome steak of anxiety) is to wonder when might a player get fully ready to roll himself back into action for his franchise team.

As being there again and ready to prepare oneself for the on field challenges is what most matters ultimately in the sport. Isn’t it? And speaking of being there for his franchise T20 team, then it ought to be said that someone like Nahid Rana of Bangladesh Cricket was desperately awaited to be back in competitive action as the most decisive stage of the current edition of the PSL aka the Pakistan Super League (season 2026) has almost well and truly arrived. Which is why there is this sense of gladness with regard to the state of readiness of Nahid Rana, hitherto available exclusively for Bangladesh Cricketing duties.

So what’s the development with regard to Nahid Rana?

It turns out that as of the last Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board provided a pertinent update on the current status of Rana stating in no uncertain terms that Rana has been given a no-objection certificate to participate or feature in the keenly anticipated PSL final contest. Which clearly means that the said cricketer is all set to take place the cricket field.

But what do we know of Rana’s PSL participation prior to his injury?

It’s common knowledge that prior to returning back home to play versus NZ, Nahid Rana had already participated in no fewer than 4 cricket contests in Pakistan’s leading T20 franchise league. That’s when he got injured and inadvertently had to return back to the country of his origin: Bangladesh in order to play the One day international series against New Zealand.

When in the PSL, he had starred for the Zalmi team.

The one day contests that happened against New Zealand were part of an international tour for the host country and someone like Rana was keenly needed by his national side. Which is why for Zalmi he could only feature in 4 contests no more.

And the concern on the part of the cricket board was that he had to be carefully utilised for cricketing duties and had not secured a clearance for a PSL return due to workload management concerns and Bangladesh's Test commitments.

However, the situation improved later on and the cricketer got the clearance from his board.

On their part, the BCB were seen to later revise their stance, which basically meant approving the fast bowler's participation in the forthcoming final match of the PSL after consultations were done and duly happened with its medical and team management units.

It ought to be noted that the Bangladesh cricket board does believe in exercising a balance between the workload the cricketers are shouldered with and the rest that they must be subjected to. Which is why it’s perhaps fair to say that the BCB believe that the exposure and experience of playing in a high-pressure final will be greet learning curve and highly valuable to further develop the career of a talent that’s rising like Nahid Rana. And that the same could help the 23-year-old grow as a frontline fast bowler for his own country, Bangladesh!

Having said all the above let us look at the official cricket statement forwarded by the Bangladesh Cricket board:

"Considering the importance of participating in the final of a major global franchise tournament, this has been viewed as an important step in the player's continued development," BCB said in a statement on Wednesday.

"More importantly, the team management and medical department have cleared him, ensuring that his participation will not have any adverse impact on his fitness, workload management or availability for national duty," it added.

Nahid Rana's Peshawar Zalmi are set to play the final game on May 4.
