It is one thing to be able to score brilliantly in a high octane contest and something quite different and perhaps truly valuable and pertinent when you are able to score brilliantly as a pair on repeat occasions. Then it’s almost like you’re actually operating - rather firing runs- on some repeat mode of sorts. The same could be highlighted to determine the current wonderful fortunes of the top order of the IPL franchise we lavish effusive praise calling them SRH. Right at the top order the Hyderabad franchise has the bustling baring talent of two exceptional white ball thrashers, if one could describe them as such.
On the one hand is the attacking left hander Travis Head, who’s known to upset the best of bowling attacks. And then on the other hand is Abhishek Sharma and his publishing blade; the kind of batter who would not stop at anything before creating a carnage with the bat. And another indeed brilliant example of the same was seen the last evening in the contest against the famous Mumbai Indians. Now it’s one thing to upset or break the rhythm of a tenacious side like MI but something quite worthy of respect and rightly so, when you are their opponent and you upset them at their own or shall one say famous hunting ground- the Wankhede.
Which is what SRH did so admirably on April 29.
Speaking of destruction and daring batting, then Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma played yet again a very compelling hand in upping the ante of attacking batting the fan has grown accustomed of seeing from the SRH end and even dealt with supreme bowling talents such as Jasprit Bumrah with remarkable and praiseworthy ease.
But a central feature of their great stand v MI was the way in which the two handled spin.
This particular aspect of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting saw Travis Head admiring the way Abhishek, his compelling batting partner at the other end, handled spin. For not only was it fun to watch but exceedingly important in the way the Hyderabad side came on top of a very demanding 240 run plus total.
TRAVIS HEAD ON ABHISHEK SHARMA: [JioStar] "I know that if spin comes on, I just give him the strike. I probably haven’t played with a better spin-hitting batter ever. So the key perspective is what did Head make of Abhishek’s batting?
I know that if spin comes on, I just give him the strike. I probably haven’t played with a better spin-hitting batter ever. I think he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen in terms of ball-striking against spin. I know in the Powerplay, we saw again in this game that teams have started to go off pace against us. So, it’s about getting him on strike and watching him go about his work. He puts teams under immense pressure. It’s a great partnership, we don’t have to talk too much".
And that’s right; isn’t it? Two extremely handy and most importantly, in form batters who do know a thing or two about how to amass runs, absolutely smash the living daylights out of any attack and then play in a way that compliments each other’s skill sets. Isn’t that what Hyderbad need even more as they reach the decisive end of the competition?
