The BCB has reportedly made contact with BCCI on other occasions as well for the India tour of Bangladesh to happen as per scheduled. After the tensions escalated between the sides due to the political scenarios. They will be hopeful that the BCCI can lift the restrictions and let sport exist free of political interventions.
Tamim Iqbal’s appointment sparks hope for renewed ties and IPL inclusion
There were speculations regarding the retirement of the Bangladesh Cricket Board President, Aminul Islam Bulbul. An interim board is set to be formed and they would conduct the discussions between the two national boards. The Bangladesh Cricketing Board earlier decided not to send their team to India during the ICC T20 World Cup and requested ICC to grant them a separate venue like they did for Pakistan.
The plea was rejected by ICC as it came under short notice and they excluded Bangladesh from the World Cup itself. Such harsh decisions was under the sports ministry advisor and anti-india hardliner Asif Nazrul. However, the recent trends show a sharp deviation from the previous interactions between the boards as Tamim Iqbal was appointed as the new President of the board.
"Yes, BCB has sent a letter to the Indian cricket board. Not only about the Indian men's team's white ball tour of Bangladesh in September, there is a men's 50-over Asia Cup which BCB is set to host next year," a BCCI source told PTI.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board is reportedly tight for finances and the hosting of a bilateral series between the sides would significantly benefit the revenue of the board. The broadcasting rights would be sold for a higher rate than usual and the amount of money generated from this series could be enough for a longer period of time. Tamim Iqbal has been one of the best players to ever play for Bangladesh and the inclusion of him in the board could result in some better decision-making.
With the appointment of Tamim Iqbal as the new President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the tensions could ease between the nations. The Bangladesh Cricket Board will be hopeful that the BCCI approves the participation of the Bangladeshi players in the league and uphold the spirit of the game.
