The 2003 born 23-year-old Suryansh Shedge earned a call up into the Indian national side for the much keenly awaited T20I series against Ireland that is all set to begin from June 26 in just a few hours ago. The two games in Belfast, Ireland shall be followed by a 3 match ODI and 5 match T20I series against England. In what is a proper full blown UK tour for the white ball side from India, the talented youngster from India got a maiden call up in the national side in place of the currently injured Nitish Kumar Reddy on Tuesday, June 23.
The talented and rising Indian all round cricketer Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out from touring the UK in lines with a quadriceps injury that again flared up most recently that kept him out of the recent series featuring Afghanistan. Reddy, a thinking and focused cricketer is an able medium fast bowler and a talented batter who can conjure useful runs from the middle order for Team India.
This, therefore, gives space to Suryansh Shedge who was most recently seen in India's victorious campaign in the Tri Nation Series in Dambulla.
A capable and seemingly reliable all rounder who was most recently a part of the famed Punjab Kings side led by none other than Shreyas Iyer, was able to make his mark and display some talent by scoring useful runs rampantly when most needed.
In the absence of the currently injured Hardik Pandya, another key figure who is absent on account of injury and the recently injured Nitish Kumar Reddy has led to a scenario where the BCCI could likely turn to Suryansh Shedge!
But having said all of that, let us take a moment to understand who is Suryansh? The rising 23-year-old talent from India, Suryansh Shedge bats right-handed and bowls medium-fast deliveries. Thus far, he has played for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Moreover, he has also shone brightly in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 and earned the title. And that’s not all; it was at the back of his consistent performances in the domestic circuit that the talented Shedge was picked up by none other than the Punjab Kings for INR 30 lakh in the IPL 2025 auction.
What’s also interesting is to note that the cricketer has had to bide his time before being finally selected. He had actually been a part of the IPL competition in 2023, where he was picked as a replacement for the then injured Jaydev Unadkat at the LSG side.
But back then he never got a game. And it wasn’t before 2026 that one got to see him in action.
