The BCCI has released a seven-page operational and disciplinary guidelines addressing all the ten teams in the league in the middle of the IPL 2026 on May 7, 2026. There were reports that the Indian cricketing board was preparing to introduce stricter rules and regulations for players and team officials amid the rising concerns over repeated breaches of protocol during the ongoing T20 tournament. In fact, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that fresh guidelines were expected to be released soon after the board observed a few instances of misconduct.

As per the new rules, the IPL team members won’t be allowed to have outsiders in their rooms without any prior approval from the team manager. Not only this, but now there would be strict rules that will be followed for players and support staff leaving the hotel. This is not it; the team members will now be required to wear their accreditation cards at all times at stadiums, hotels, and practice facilities. Additionally, a few more rules have also been implemented regarding communication in the dug out.

What are the new rules implemented by BCCI?

Here are a few rules that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has implemented to ensure discipline in IPL 2026-

  1. To remain vigilant against potential honey-trapping risks during the season.

  2. Outsiders will not be allied to IPL members’ rooms without prior knowledge and approval of the team manager.

  3. Players and support staff cannot leave the team hotel at any hour without clearance from the designated Security Liaison Officers or Team Integrity Officers.

  4. Wearing accreditation cards at all times at stadium, team hotel, and practice facilities is a must for players, support staff, team officials and IPL franchise representatives.

  5. Owners to refrain from communicating with players/managers in the dugout during the course of the game.
