Bihar broke the record for the highest ever total in the history of List A cricket by scoring 574/6 in 50 overs against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It is now the new world record team total in List A cricket, with Bihar breaking plenty of records this morning. They went past Tamil Nadu’s 506/2 (also vs Arunachal Pradesh in 2022-23 season) and set a new highest score for one-day cricket at this level.

Facing Arunachal Pradesh in their opening fixture at JSCA Cricket Stadium, 14 year old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, opening the innings with Mangal Mahrour, and scored a blistering 190 off 84 deliveries. His innings featured 16 fours and 15 sixes, and this is now the second highest List A score by an Indian.

Bihar’s captain, Sakibul Gani further added to his team’s explosive outing and was ruthless against Arunachal Pradesh bowlers with a 40-ball 128, hitting 10 fours and 12 sixes, and finished with a strike rate of 320. Ayush Anand Loharuka made 116 runs off just 56 balls, scoring 11 fours and 8 sixes in the process. The fourth top run scorer of the side was Piyush Singh, who scored 77 off 66 deliveries.

The finishing in the death overs belonged to Sakibul Gani and Piyush Singh who ended with 128 off 40 balls as Bihar surged beyond the 550 mark and then kept going. The innings also broke major records. Gani now has the fastest hundred in Vijay Hazare Trophy history and the fastest List A hundred by an Indian. He brought up his century of just 31 balls. This also the third fastest List A century in the world behind, Jake Fraser-McGurk (29) and AB de Villiers (31).

Ayush Loharuka then ensured the run-rate never went down as even he smashed a century to keep the innings in overdrive through the middle phase. Arunachal Pradesh bowlers had a day to forget as no one could either pick wickets or keep scoring rate down. It was mayhem and plenty of records broken. It will be a day to forget for Arunachal Pradesh.
