The wait for the next edition of the Indian Premier League is over as the broadcaster, Jio has officially announced the start date of 2026 IPL season. Through an Instagram post which was collaborated between Star Sports and the Jio Hotstar, it was confirmed that the upcoming edition of IPL will commence on 28th March 2026.

Earlier, the IPL body had confirmed 26th March as the start date. However, due to elections, security, and player availability it has been pushed by 2 days. Interestingly, the final is most likely scheduled to be played on 31 May instead of 30 May.

With return of IPL, we will also see the return of our childhood heroes. The likes of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, who either have retired from International cricket fully or from a couple of formats will be seen playing in the highly-anticipated tournament.

Chennai Super Kings have already started their pre season camp in Chennai, while RCB and MI are yet to start. Rohit Sharma has individually started his preparations ahead of the season and most likely to not play as an impact player this season.

Lastly, the defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore will play 5 games in Bangalore and 2 games in Raipur for the first time this season. The final of 2026 IPL is scheduled to be played at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
