Young teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, India’s 14-year-old prodigy, scored a fabulous 171-run knock against UAE in the Under-19 Men’s Asia Cup opener on Friday. His explosive effort propelled India to a towering 433 in 50 overs at Dubai’s ICC Academy Ground. India U19 won the match by 234 runs. With that knock he has once again made fans think if he is ready for international T20.

Suryavanshi reached to his ton off 56 balls, ending unbeaten on 171 from 95 deliveries, with nine fours and a record-breaking 14 sixes at a strike rate of 180. This performance shattered the Youth ODI mark for most sixes in an innings, going past Australia’s Michael Hill’s 12 sixes in a 124-run knock against Namibia U19 back in 2008.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is set to be a part of the Under-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia in January next year. Media and fans have already started speculating about his international debut, thanks to his explosive form and rapid rise in recent times. For the Indian selectors and coach, it is problem of plenty, especially with the Indian team gearing up for the upcoming T20 World Cup at home in February next year.

There is no doubt that the BCCI has made it clear by making this youngster play various A games that his game is suited for the higher level and Suryavanshi is currently in and around among the next crop of the players. But the question is when will he get his senior cap ?

As of now, the current Indian T20 team looks balanced and sorted and is arguably one of the best in the world at present. Even a player like Sanju Samson, with three T20I hundreds, is warming the bench. Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill are set at the top of the order with Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and others taking care of the middle order. Players like Jaiswal and Ruturaj are already waiting in the pipeline to replace openers.

But given his rapid rise to fame, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has grabbed most of his chances so there is no doubt he will be making his T20I debut for India soon. There is high chance that Vaibhav Suryavanshi will be making his T20I debut for India post World T20 and will be given a chance to don the blues.
