Surely, it must be said that the current Chennai captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has seen happier days in the past. And that too, under someone else’s leadership when he was himself blossoming as a batter in the CSK fold.

But as soon as the brand new season of the IPL 2026 began, his confidence; both as captain as a man with the usually aggressive willow seems to have gone quiet. A touch perhaps but not yielding the best possible results for his famed Chennai team.

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has come under growing criticism on social media after the team’s third consecutive defeat in IPL 2026. Fans have been especially disappointed with his batting, which has not been up to the mark in recent matches.  

Gaikwad, known for his calm and composed nature, did not shy away from taking responsibility. After the loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he openly admitted that his own performance could have made a difference in the result.

“If I would have contributed more, maybe it could have been different - the loss was definitely on me today,” Gaikwad said after the match. His honest statement reflects both his leadership mindset and his awareness of the team’s current struggles.

With pressure building and expectations high, all eyes will now be on Gaikwad to bounce back strongly and lead CSK out of this difficult phase
