Chennai Super Kings (CSK), one of the most successful cricket franchises all over the world with 5 titles in the Indian Premier League, plans to invest in women's cricket in the near future, as confirmed by the CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan during an Invest in Tamil Nadu conclave. With this announcement, we might see CSK in one of the major women’s cricket leagues and the “IPL of the Women’s,” the Women’s Premier League (WPL), in the future.
“Our first target will be women’s cricket,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirms, the franchise planning to invest in women’s cricket.
Speaking at the Invest in Tamil Nadu conclave, the Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirms that the franchise is planning to invest in women's cricket in the near future and could explore opportunities in other sports too.
When asked about CSK’s long-term plans, Viswanathan said, “Not immediately, but certainly in the coming years, CSK will expand its footprint. Our first target will be women’s cricket. We may also go into other sports over time.”
This could be an indication that the Chennai Super Kings are investing in the BCCI’s Women’s Premier League. The franchise has the most trophies (5) in the IPL jointly.

When the Women’s Premier League (WPL) started in 2023, tagged franchise fans had the expectation they might see their yellow army in women’s cricket, too, but the franchise did not show intent at that time. On the other hand, their rivals, Mumbai India and Royal Challengers Bangalore, were invited into the league, and both franchises also won the titles. Mumbai, India, won two titles in 2023 and 2025, while RCB won the 2024 edition.
Currently, the WPL has only 5 teams, including Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, and UP Warriors. If the BCCI expands the league in the future with the addition of 2 or 3 more teams, then we might get to see the Chennai Super Kings in the league.
