To take a hat trick in any format of the competition and irrespective of where what part of the world one plays franchise cricket in, is special and truth be told, no easy task. Then when you become part of a very special and rare effort such as taking a double hat trick, then the cause of celebration becomes even more important and apparent. Add the adjective ceaselessly joyful to that as well!

So a few hours ago, when Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka fetched a commendable double hat trick for his eventually victorious Seattle Orcas side, he didn’t just create magic; he did something something so rare, strikingly good and special that it simply hadn’t been done before.

It all started out in the second innings of the contest where against the Texas Super Kings, led avidly well thus far by none other than Faf du Plessis, that Dasun Shanaka begun to find his rhythm. Not that scoring runs was much difficult on what clearly seemed to be a good pitch, but Dasun Shanka wasn’t going to let Texas have it any easy.

And what simply began as a single dismissal aka one wicket in the form of Donovan Ferreira became a consistent and brilliant befalling of wickets, a kind of bowling onslaught that the Texas Superkings were neither prepared and not able to stop.

Implicit in the first double hat trick of MLC cricket, in the beating heart of the United States, was the commendable effort of a tireless Sri Lankan all round cricketer. And one that we can say, the Seattle side are simply fortunate to have!

Claiming four wickets in four deliveries and managing to defend a total that was nowhere nightmarish in the form of 121 was a sign of a great day out in the field. And something that only a few talented performers can think of managing.

With 4 wickets in this very recent game, the 34 year old right arm medium pacer now has 11 wickets in the ongoing completion.
