The Pakistan Premier League (PSL) 2026 player auction is set to take place on 11 February 2026, and a screenshot is going viral in India claiming Indian cricketer Agni Chopra’s name is on the auction list. This created buzz on social media, where fans started attacking the cricketer and his family on the internet, but later Agni put up an Instagram story saying the reports are fake and misleading.
Fact Check: Did Agni Chopra Really Register for the PSL 2026 Auction?
Agni Chopra, the 27-year-old left-handed batter from India, has completely denied the false claims about his participation in the PSL 2026 auction. After a screenshot went viral with his name on the PSL auction list on the official website of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Agni posted a story on Instagram saying:
"Fake and misleading reports are being circulated in my name regarding a tournament. I would like to clarify that I have not enrolled for the PSL. I remain fully focused on my cricket journey in the USA and my long-term career goals. I request everyone not to fall prey to misinformation."
The screenshot of the Instagram story was also reposted by his mother, Anupama Chopra, who is an Indian author, journalist, and film critic. Agni Chopra and his mother have dismissed the reports claiming Agni’s name is on the auction list.
He has played a total of 11 First Class matches and scored 1804 runs with an average of 94.94, including 9 centuries and 5 half-centuries. In T20s, he has scored 452 runs in 16 games and smashed 299 runs in 12 List A games.
Notably, Agni Chopra took a shocking retirement from Indian cricket and played in the Major Cricket League for MI New York, where he scored 13 runs in 2 matches.
As the batter has already retired from Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s rules allow him to play any cricket league in the world, including the PSL, if he wants.
