The 1st ODI match at Edgbaston between India and England left the viewers in anger on X (formerly, Twitter) as Indian bowlers were not able to pick any wickets in the first 10 overs of the match and gave England a good comfortable start. Ben Duckett was applauded for his shots while Jacob Bethell received criticism for slow start. Although Jasprit Bumrah has managed to keep his length even after returning to ODI after almost 2.5 years, the younger bowling line-up consisting of Gurnoor Brar, Prasidh Krishna gave away runs ruining the pressure built by Bumrah.

Panic rose among Indian fans as Bethell and Duckett looked extremely comfortable facing what was supposed to be a dangerous bowling line-up. The England team looked extremely in form and could go on to score more than 400 runs with the partnership established in the beginning.

Jacob Bethell and Ben Duckett the opening pair for the English team stitched a partnership of 60 runs in the 10 overs of the match, where Duckett already neared his half century while the bowlers struggled to find a breakthrough. The 31 year old English player managed to keep his shots small while facing Jasprit Bumrah but hit Gurnoor Brar for an expensive over.

Brar had already gone for 26 runs in the first two overs. Skipper Shubman Gill had to introduce Shivam Dube in the 10th over which led to a lot of uproar on X (formerly, Twitter). India was finally able to break the partnership between Duckett and Bethell as Gurnoor Brar dismissed Bethell in his third over. After getting hit for 4,6,6,4,4 Brar dismissed Bethell with a back of the length ball.

Gurnoor Brar strikes openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell as he plays in Edgbaston for first time

Gurnoor Brar delivered a stunning performance in his first ODI match in England for India against England at Edgbaston. The young fast bowler stepped up under immense pressure and completely altered the momentum of the game during his opening spell. England's opening batsmen had established a solid partnership and looked comfortable at the crease before the Indian captain introduced Brar into the bowling attack.

He struck almost immediately in his third over with a brilliant display of pace and accuracy. Brar first deceived Jacob Bethell with a sharp, rising delivery that forced a mistimed shot straight into the hands of Washington Sundar. This crucial breakthrough ended the threatening opening stand and energized the Indian side. Only two balls later, the debutant capitalized on the sudden shift in momentum. He bowled a perfect line to Ben Duckett, trapping the experienced batsman and claiming his second wicket of the over.

This double-strike threw the English top order into sudden disarray and electrified the away crowd. Although the batsmen managed to score a few boundaries off his earlier deliveries, Brar's ability to take back-to-back wickets proved vital for his team. His aggressive approach and composure on the grand stage justified his selection in the playing eleven. By removing both dangerous openers in rapid succession, he successfully put India in a commanding position early in the innings and completed a dream start to his international career.
