India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah added another milestone to his illustrious career during the first ODI against England at Edgbaston on Tuesday. The right-arm pacer became the first Indian cricketer to complete the rare treble of 150 ODI wickets, 200 Test wickets and 100 T20I wickets, underlining his consistency across all three formats of the game.
Bumrah entered the series opener with 234 wickets in Tests and 121 wickets in T20Is. He reached the 150-wicket mark in ODIs after dismissing England captain Harry Brook in the 14th over of the innings. Brook looked to take on the Indian quick but ended up offering a catch to skipper Rohit Sharma, handing Bumrah yet another landmark in international cricket.
The feat puts Bumrah in an exclusive group of cricketers. Only two other players have achieved the milestone of taking at least 150 wickets in ODIs, 200 wickets in Tests and 100 wickets in T20Is. New Zealand veteran Tim Southee has claimed 221 ODI wickets, 391 Test wickets and 164 T20I wickets, while Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has registered 317 ODI wickets, 246 Test wickets and 149 T20I wickets. The fast-bowler is now the first Indian to join the elite list.
Jasprit Bumrah breaks plenty of records in first ODI against England
His 150th ODI wicket also brought another notable record. It was Bumrah's 31st wicket in England in the format, making him the first Indian bowler to take more than 30 ODI wickets on English soil. He went past Ravindra Jadeja, who previously held the record with 30 wickets. Among Indian pacers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is next on the list with 28 wickets in England.
The milestone also highlighted the 32-year-old's rapid rise in ODI cricket. He became the second-fastest Indian pacer to reach 150 ODI wickets, getting there in just 90 matches. Only Mohammed Shami reached the mark quicker among Indian pacers, taking 80 matches. Overall, Kuldeep Yadav also achieved the feat faster, needing only 88 matches.
Bumrah's latest milestone is another reflection of his impact in international cricket. With 150 ODI wickets now added to his tally alongside more than 200 Test wickets and over 100 T20I wickets, the Indian fast bowler continues to be one of the great bowlers across formats in this decade.
