Former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid, alongside Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) President Venkatesh Prasad, officially unveiled the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 2026 trophy in Bengaluru. At the launch event, Dravid highlighted the tournament as a platform for scouting emerging local talent for the Indian Premier League. Dravid stated that a standout performance could make way for young players to enter the biggest stages of competition, like Yash Raj Punja's IPL selection. Along with the men's tournament, the KSCA also announced the introduction of a parallel-running women's competition, the Maharani Cup.

The tournament will run from June 20 to July 12, 2026, across Mysuru, Hubballi, and Bengaluru, with six franchises battling across 34 matches. Karun Nair emerged as the most expensive player at the Maharaja Trophy Season 5 auction, securing a massive ₹18 lakh bid from Coastal Kings Mangaluru, with Abhinav Manohar and Manish Pandey also at the Top five list. KL Rahul was a major unsold marquee name due to his international commitments, while teams spent majorly on key domestic and state talents for the upcoming season.

Which rules make Maharaja Trophy stand out from other T20 leagues?

There had been a lot of talk about T20 leagues becoming more of a batter's game and nothing for bowlers. Maharaja Trophy made changes specifically aiming to reward bowlers and challenge captains to build tactically sound squads without the benefit of knowing if they will bat or bowl first.

Let us have a look:

Before-Toss XI Submission: Teams must declare their eleven before going to the toss, which removes the luxury of choosing an Impact Player based on whether they are batting or fielding first. This will test the more strategic and analytical mindset of the captain and the think tank.

No-Run Free Hits: If a batter is caught or bowled off a free-hit delivery, the runs scored on that specific ball do not count. This is designed to reward bowlers for recovering well after a no-ball.

Run Restoration: If a batter is initially given out but the decision is overturned by technology, any runs completed by the batter during that play will now be legally added to their total.
