Batting collapses have produced some of the darkest chapters in India's T20I history. While the Men in Blue have built a reputation as one of the world's strongest white-ball sides, there have been occasions when they crumbled under pressure, resulting in some shockingly low totals. The latest addition came against England at Trent Bridge on July 7, 2026, where India were bowled out for just 76, their second-lowest total in T20Is.

India’s six lowest totals in T20I history

From the 74 all out against Australia in 2008 to the dramatic 119 against Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup, here are India's six lowest totals in T201 cricket.

  1. 74 all out vs Australia (Melbourne, 2008):

Fresh off their inaugural 2007 World T20 triumph, India crumbled to their lowest-ever T20I score against a lethal Australian team. Electing to bat first, the top-order collapsed under intense pressure, slumping to 32/5. Irfan Pathan was the lone fighter, top-scoring with 26 runs, and remained the only Indian player to cross double digits.

Australian seamer Nathan Bracken dismantled the lineup with exceptional figures of 3/11. The remaining Indian batters failed drastically against pace and bounce, ending the innings in 17.5 overs. Australia chased down the minor target in just 11.2 overs, handing India a comprehensive nine-wicket defeat.

  1. 76 all out vs England (Nottingham, 2026):

Chasing a target of 202 against England at Trent Bridge, India suffered a historic batting annihilation, folding in just 11.4 overs. Under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy, the lineup experienced a horrific powerplay collapse, slipping to 54/5. For the first time in Indian T20I history, not a single batsman managed to reach 20 runs.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan top-scored with just 13 runs each, while Abhishek Sharma chipped in with a brief cameo. England’s pace attack was relentless; Josh Tongue tore through the order with 4/28, while Jofra Archer claimed 3/29. This triggered India's biggest-ever T20I defeat by a margin of 125 runs.

  1. 79 all out vs New Zealand (Nagpur, 2016):

In a 2016 World T20 group match, India suffered a shock defeat on a raging turner against New Zealand. Chasing a modest target of 127, the Indian batting unit collapsed entirely against the Kiwi spin trio. Skipper MS Dhoni top-scored with a fighting 30 off 30 balls, and Virat Kohli contributed 23 runs, but the rest of the star-studded lineup collapsed to single-digit scores.

Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner completely rattled the hosts with an extraordinary spell of 4/11, while leg-spinner Ish Sodhi chipped in with 3/18. India were bundled out in 18.1 overs, losing the opening tournament fixture by 47 runs.

  1. 92 all out vs South Africa (Cuttack, 2015):

During the 2015 bilateral home series, India suffered a humiliating collapse at Barabati Stadium against South Africa. Put in to bat on a difficult surface, India’s star-studded batting lineup faltered under intense pressure. Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma top-scored with just 22 runs each, while the rest of the order failed to build a single stable partnership.

Proteas spinner Albie Morkel triggered the disaster, taking 3/12, while Imran Tahir and Chris Morris ran through the tail. India were bowled out in 17.2 overs. The match was also marred by crowd disturbances before South Africa comfortably chased the target by six wickets.

  1. 101 all out vs Sri Lanka (Pune, 2016):

On a surprisingly green, seam-friendly pitch in Pune, India’s top order was blown away by an unheralded Sri Lankan pace attack. Reduced to a catastrophic 58/7, the home team was saved from complete embarrassment by Ravichandran Ashwin, who top-scored with a gritty, unbeaten 31 off 24 balls.

Suresh Raina was the only other major contributor with a brief 20 runs. Sri Lankan debutant Kasun Rajitha devastated the top order with 3/29, while Dasun Shanaka tore through the middle with 3/16. India were bundled out in 18.5 overs, and Sri Lanka cruised to a comfortable five-wicket victory.

  1. 119 all out vs Pakistan (New York, 2024):

In a high-stakes 2024 T20 World Cup group match, India recorded their sixth-lowest total on a volatile Nassau County pitch against arch-rivals Pakistan. Sent in to bat, India suffered an alarming middle-order collapse, losing their final seven wickets for just 30 runs. Rishabh Pant was the absolute savior, top-scoring with a counter-attacking 42 off 31 balls, while Axar Patel contributed a crucial 20 runs.

Pakistani pacers Naseem Shah (3/21) and Haris Rauf (3/21) bowled brilliantly to dismantle the tail. Despite the low total, India's bowlers staged an iconic defense, winning the thriller by six runs.
