“I backed him, because I felt that there is a lot that Sanju Samson can deliver for the team,” with these promising and very honest words India’s head coach and former cricketer Gautam Gambhir opined his feedback on why Sanju Samson was backed and extended the kind of warmth and support that simply transformed his game. Transformed it in a manner that fetched his own batting form and ultimately, his very team India spectacular results.
Gautam Gambhir on Sanju Samson backing Importance
With the dust having just settled on India’s immensely bright ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, head coach Gambhir was invited to speak on eminent platforms such as Ms Smita Prakash’s ANI podcast.
And when asked to elaborate on why Samson was backed, the gritty left hander happened to highlight the following:
“Sometimes people go through a lean run. For instance, in the series against New Zealand (prior to the World Cup), he (Sanju) had a lean series. So it’s not that the bad form will forever stick; it withers away.”

How it worked well for Sanju Samson
Coach Gambhir further highlighted we gave him a couple of games off. And obviously when he got back, we just knew he would deliver it (the results) for us!”
At the end of the day, it’s about backing talent
This, clearly, seemed to be the mantra for Samson, the belligerent right hander who, lest one forgets, scored three glorious fifties on the bounce. These were one each against the West Indies, England and then, that immensely important knock against the BlackCaps in the final.
So once you know your talent and know his importance and relevance to the side, you simply back the player and eventually, the results are there to be seen.
What do you reckon?
