Gurnoor Brar just recorded the ODI debut of his dream by scalping the first wicket in his first ever international over. Brar made his ODI debut for India in the first ODI against Afghanistan in the neighbours’ multi-format tour to the Indian subcontinent. After the completion of the one-off Test in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, both teams travelled to the serene town of Dharamsala to kick off the three-game 50-over series. The opening game that was reduced to 25 overs a side due to heavy downpour, saw the home skipper, Shubman Gill, winning the toss and inviting the rivals to put the score on the board first.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side, who were aiming to make the most of their opportunity, got off to an unfavorable start. They received an early setback by losing opener Ibrahim Zadran in the second over of the game as Brar recorded his first ever international wicket in his maiden over for India. On the fifth ball of the second over, Brar bowled a length delivery, which ended up moving away late, leading to Zadran going for the drive.

However, he got an edge in the air, and Shubman Gill, positioned at mid-off, stepped backward to complete a comfortable catch. Brar, as expected, was left ecstatic as his teammates congratulated him for his first ever success in the Blue jersey. On the other hand, Zadran was forced to walk back at 1 run in 4 deliveries.
