Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are reportedly set to miss the clash against the Punjab Kings today. The reasons for their expected unavailability is unknown and Mumbai Indians may have a new skipper today. According to media reports, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to captain the Mumbai side today with the reported absence of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya. This will be a battle of honour and pride for the Mumbai Indians as they have already been eliminated from the tournament with their loss against RCB at Raipur in the previous match.
The Mumbai Indians will have plenty of areas to look into considering their performance in this season as on paper, they are one of the best sides with a well balanced team. But their performance has indicated otherwise with an early exit in the tournament. With the kind of stalwarts in their batting unit and perhaps the most strongest Indian core, nobody could have seen this coming. The early injury of Rohit Sharma was also a setback for the side and now they will be missing another batting superstar.
Punjab Kings eye crucial top-four boost while Mumbai Indians battle it out for pride
The Punjab Kings will be desperate to win this match as they have lost 4 matches on the trot and they will need a win in this game to secure a spot in the top 4. They were unbeaten in their first 7 games and their previous 4 games, will be an aberration to forget. The domination they exerted in the first half of the IPL is very evident with the fact that they still haven’t slipped below the 4th position. The decisions of the skipper Shreyas Iyer was under scrutiny in the previous game as he didn’t give an over to their strike bowler, Yuzvendra Chahal. It will be interesting to see the changes they will have in their squad and how they could turn around their fortunes.
On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians will be looking to find some good talent to groom for the next season as they have got nothing to fight for. They might have had a glimmer of hope with a thumping victory over LSG, credit to the early fireworks from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. But it has all ended in agony with their loss against RCB and the manner in which they lost the game, summed up the story of the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. It was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who finished the game for RCB and that was the first six of the veteran in almost 10 years.
The changes in the Mumbai Indians squad will be reflective of the future decisions that they would take in the squad and we could see a complete turnaround. With Jasprit Bumrah expected to lead the side from the front, the fans will be expecting to see a win under their new captain against an out-of-form Punjab Kings.
