During the game between the India women and Bangladesh women, there has been one of the most bizarre mix-ups in the middle between Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues. The irony of the confusion between the batters would be that it didn’t result in a run-out. Nahida Akter bowled a fine ball onto the pads of Harmanpreet Kaur and she swept it towards backward square leg. The Indian skipper signaled a run and made the first few steps before she decided to change her mind and turn down the signal. By this time, Jemimah Rodrigues was already half-way there and she immediately turned around to get back to her crease but luckily Nahida couldn’t gather the ball to complete the stumping.

India lost a couple of crucial wickets in the middle overs and it almost seemed like Bangladesh was crawling back into the game. This fumble from Nahida Akter could have been a match-defining moment as they were piling the pressure on India’s batting unit and an extra wicket could have helped them. Jemimah Rodrigues went on to score some important boundaries in her innings and she made sure that Nahida Akter regretted her mistake. India have won the game against Bangladesh by 5 wickets and this has been a well-rounded performance.

Shafali Verma stars as India beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets

During the run-chase, India were off to a shaky start with the dismissal of their star batter, Smriti Mandhana early on in the innings. But then, Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia batted beautifully throughout the powerplay and created history by putting on the highest powerplay total for India in the tournament’s history. WIth the way that the innings was progressing for India, Shafali Verma was all set to take India to victory but her innings came to an end with a timely wicket from Nahida Akter. Then India started to fall like a deck of cards, with 3 wickets falling for just 22 runs and there would have been some small areas of concern for the side in the bigger picture.

The performance of the Indian bowlers has been clinical in every game that they have played so far including this game against Bangladesh. But the main area of concern for the side would be the sloppy fielding as catches win matches and India are putting down quite a few of them. Radha Yadav bowled exceptionally well in her spell of 4 overs as she picked up 3 wickets but her fielding needs to improve. She is often regarded as a terrific fielder in the outfield but her fielding has been a touch below average by her standards. Shafali Verma’s match-winning knock of 53 off just 34 balls has rewarded her with the Player of the Match award.

India will have a lot of positives to take away from this game considering their overall performance with both bat and ball. The only concerns would be the quick fall of wickets after one batter gets dismissed and the dropped catches in the outfield. India will need to tighten a bit more in such areas if they intend to win the tournament by defeating stronger sides.
