Preparatory series key as India sharpen plans for T20 World Cup challenge
"We were playing two really good series against South Africa and England. Those matches will definitely give us confidence to go ahead for the T20 World Cup, and hopefully we will get the best out of it," said Harmanpreet Kaur when asked about the World Cup plans. India Women will be touring South Africa and England before the World Cup. The most important tour will be the series against England, as England is the host for the World Cup. India will be able to figure out the players who will be best suited for the conditions, and the team selection for the starting squad could be based on that.
The Indian Women’s side had toured Australia earlier in February, and they played a 3-match T20I series. Arundhati Reddy dominated proceedings in the first match as she picked up 4 wickets and gave away just 22 runs. India didn’t have to do a lot with the bat as the game was rain-affected and India were ahead by 20 runs on DLS. The hosts bounced back in the second game to level the series, and that set the stage for a huge finale. In the finale, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues smashed crucial half-centuries to make sure that they got to a good total. The Indian Women won the match by 17 runs and won the series 2-1.
The Women in Blue would be under pressure to put up a fine performance at the T20 World Cup, as the fans were significantly impressed with the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur and her women will be confident that they can conquer yet another milestone.
PV Sindhu meets Harmanpreet Kaur in much-awaited cricket–badminton crossover moment
"It's a great opportunity for me to meet PV Sindhu and get to know her. I am very excited to be part of her team,” said Harmanpreet Kaur. Olympic Medalist PV Sindhu participated in the HYROX event, and Harmanpreet Kaur said it was nice to work with her. PV Sindhu even said that she found a new, encouraging cheerleader in Harmanpreet Kaur. The stage was shared by two of the most prominent female athletes of the country, and the moment delighted fans across both sports.
PV Sindhu, the Indian badminton player, had returned to International badminton after a long period of injury and recovery. She started her campaign in 2026 by reaching the semi-finals of the Malaysia Open. She couldn’t just get her hands on any title so far, as she qualified for the quarter-finals in the Indonesia Masters, but ended up losing it. She will be working towards regaining her form on the international stage as she has a couple of key tournaments coming up.
