Indian skipper Shubman Gill heaped praise on promising spin star Manav Suthar and said that he could be someone to play for the country for a long time. Gill was speaking at the post-match ceremony of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, where the visiting side recorded a blowout 165-run win to go up 1-0. Suthar, playing his second Test for the Indian team, ended up with a ten-wicket haul. He had picked four wickets in the first innings, and six in the second to guide the side to a clinical win and enter name into record books.

Following the game, visiting skipper Gill lauded the youngster and called him a promising talent. He said that the 24-year-old could play for India for a long time. “He's been bowling magnificently, even in the first match that he played in India (vs Afghanistan), and in this match. He looks like a very promising guy and someone who can play for India for a very long time,” the winning captain said in the post-match presentation.

Speaking on the victory, Gill said that the victory means more as it was the side’s 600th overall Test. He said, “A very satisfying win for us. I think we were in a comfortable position. But to be able to come here, not sure if the match is going to go because of the weather, we were put under a bit of pressure. But I think the team responded really well.” Speaking about Gill’s performance in the Test, the 26-year-old scored 16 runs off 28 balls in the first innings, followed by eight runs off 20 deliveries in the second.
