Manav Suthar, the young spinner, who wreaked havoc in the first Test against Sri Lanka, has scripted history. Suthar is now the youngest Indian cricketer to claim a 10-wicket haul in an away Test. Notably, the 24-year-old picked four wickets in the first innings, and followed up the performance with 6/55 in the second innings to record a 10-wicket haul. His bowling heroics played an instrumental role in guiding the side to a 165-run victory in a must-win game. With the triumph, the hosts are now 1-0 up in the two-game series.
Suthar, who was playing his only second Test for India, dominated the rivals right from the beginning. By the end of the game, he has etched his name into the history and joined an elite club which features stars like Ravichandran Ashwin, Anil Kumble, and more. The Rajasthan-cricketer is now the youngest Indian at the age of 24 years and 16 days to pick a 10-wicket haul in an away Test. Not only this, but he is also the seventh spinner from the country to take 10 wickets in an away Test.
He has joined an elite club with names like Ravichandran Ashwin, Bishan Singh Bedi, Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, Anil Kumble, and Harbhajan Singh. Moreover, Suthar is the only Indian in the group to achieve the feat before the age of 28.
Manav Suthar Breaks Multiple Records with Match-Winning 10-Wicket Haul
As the Shubman Gill-led side recorded a crucial win to keep their WTC 2027 Finale hopes alive, Suthar ended up breaking multiple records with his bowling prowess. He has now found a spot amongst the group of Indian bowlers with multiple five-wicket hauls in their first two Tests. Suthar has now two such hauls, and he has joined the company of Narendra Hirwani (three), Axar Patel (three), Laxman Sivaramakrishnan (two), and Mohammad Nissar (two).
This is not it, the Sri Ganganagar-native has become the only fourth Indian to claim a maiden 10-wicket match haul within his first two Tests. Hirwani is the quickest player to record the feat with 16 wickets on debut against West Indies in Chennai in 1988. Apart from him, Sivaramakrishnan and Axar Patel also achieved the feat in their first two matches. Additionally, the left-arm spinner is also the fourth Indian to claim ten wickets against Sri Lanka after Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, and Ashwin.
