The T20 World Cup has always been a proven entertainer for fans and pundits across the globe for its intense and unforgiving nature. It has always been an unpredictable competition filled with loads of drama and end-to-end action. It’s been nearly two decades since the competition came to life and India has remained consistent over the years.

The Men in Blue have made it to the three finals in nine editions, the most by any team in the history of the T20 World Cup and are standing at the cusp of another World Cup final. India are looking to defend their crown by winning back-to-back T20 World Cup titles and it remains to be seen if they manage to do it.

India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 with a very fresh squad under the guidance of skipper MS Dhoni. They defeated Pakistan by five runs to lift the iconic trophy in Johannesburg. India batted first and scored 157/5 at the end of 20 overs before Pakistan were cleaned up for 152 with three balls to spare. Gautam Gambhir led the way for India with a 75 run knock while RP Singh and Irfan Pathan racked up three wickets each.

India reached their second final at the 2014 T20 World Cup and locked horns with Sri Lanka. This time they couldn’t get their hands on the elusive trophy as Sri Lanka emerged victorious with a six wickets win in Mirpur. India put up a total of 130 in 20 overs and it took just 18 overs for Sri Lanka to breach that total and become World champions for the first time.

After multiple unsuccessful performances and close calls, India finally reached their third final after a decade-long wait. They were placed against South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Kensington Oval. India were again invited to bat first and it was Virat Kohli who stood against all odds and led India to a winning total. India’s bowling lineup worked their magic and wrapped up a famous seven run in Barbados.
