There’s a lot that we know in the cricketing domain where it comes to none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni or MSD as he’s also known as. We know that he hits mega sixes. We have respected and lauded his worthy deeds with the cricketing bat wherein he has starred (for his team) and startled bowlers around the world with his “finishing skills”. We also know that he’s been a clever and shrewd observer of the game, often plotting about the downfall of even the most well set batters.

But there’s something more about Dhoni, still with the famed Chennai Superkings, that perhaps needs greater introspection.

And it’s just how he is when away from the 22 yards or the cricketing pitch.

In a recent media exchange in these days adding up to the start of the new IPL season, the often reticent man and former Indian cricket captain shared that he is often away from the phone.

Sharing candidly when on stage he’s not great or too enthusiastic about the prospect being on the phone, Dhoni underlined his disposition to reticence where it comes to the gadgets.

But what else can we make from what the leading Indian cricket legend recently shared.

Perhaps the following augurs well to be noted- Dhoni is known for being extremely observant and calm under pressure.

When he says he prefers face-to-face conversations, he’s pointing out that:

In person you can see facial expressions

You can understand tone and body language

You can judge how someone truly feels

On a phone call, all of that disappears. You only hear the voice.

For someone like Dhoni—who built his leadership style around reading situations and people—those cues matter a lot.
