There was a sense of occasion to the Kolkata Knight Riders contest that happened most recently against the Delhi Capitals. In the bid that’s becoming rapidly competitive in order to make it to the Play offs of the 2026 edition of the IPL, each point is, certainly, ever so important. On their part, Delhi Capitals, who had been at the back of a stern warning issued by coach Munaf Patel (to take each game as a chance to win) desperately searching for a win, on the other part, the Kolkata Knight Riders were also looking to collect yet another win. As a matter of fact, they entered the New Delhi contest at the back of a hat trick of wins previously collected against different sides. A fourth would ideally place them in a competitive base on the table. And in the end, that’s exactly what happened for the visiting Kolkata team. But a lion’s share of their run chase belonged to one man in particular. And that man is the Blackcaps top order batter- Finn Allen.
Scoring a brilliant hundred, exactly a knock of 100 runs, to be to precise, this was Finn Allen’s first ever century against the Delhi Capitals and a first hit in the national capital.

Scoring a scintillating, fast paced and a very attacking hundred from the very top drawer, Allen hit 10 sixes and 5 boundaries in his wonderful unbeaten knock. And what was special besides the fact that he struck 80 of his 100 runs by way of hits to the fence was that he scored a century of the 147 runs that his Kolkata outfit struck in the end.
As with any hundred, though, there was a special significance that lied with the man scoring at the other end. And batting at the other end, however, more watchfully if not aggressively, was Cameron Green of Australia.
How brilliant that an Aussie and Kiwi took Kolkata home!
However, at the conclusion of the game, here is what Cameron Green exclaimed about Allen’s brilliant knock- “I did the math for Finn Allen. When 30 runs were needed, I told him he’s got a chance!”
And a chance he did certainly get, one that he would make the most out of.
And what had hitherto been a rather frustrating sight- Allen not being able to convert his starts into meaningful scores- was on this occasion dealt with, with a bit more focus and caution. In the end, a deserving century that shone brightly for the famed KKR unit.
