Pakistan cricketer Usman Tariq has made a bold statement ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 which is set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. This is regarding the match between India and Pakistan and he has told that ‘I’ll beat India single handedly on 15 Feb’’. This statement has gone viral on Instagram with plenty of fans laughing it out and some saying he is not even sure of a place in the team. Usman Tariq is an off-spinner who bowls with a slight bend in his action which often makes his delivery low trajectory. He has been picked up in the squad for the WT20 2026. Watch the post here.
India will face off against arch rivals Pakistan on 15th February at Colombo in Sri Lanka. India will start as favorites and have even beaten Pakistan three times in the recent Asia Cup. This statement from Usman Tariq is a bit too much coming from someone who just made his debut recently and has got warnings multiple times for a suspect action. With the likes of Abrar Ahmed, Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz it looks very tough for Usman Tariq to break in the team with even Saim Ayub in the side who can also bowl a few overs of spin.
The post went viral and fans have started making fun of his over confidence and it is likely that if he gets selected and does not do well or India wins, he is likely to receive lot of backlash. This is not the first time a Pakistan cricketer has been giving statements like this. Earlier during Asia Cup Haris Rauf made similar statements and later he could not bowl well and Indian batters absolutely smashed his bowling and made Pakistan lose the final of the Asia Cup. Haris Rauf has not even been selected for the T20 World Cup.
So, this statement from Usman Tariq who has played very less matches comes as no surprise. India will be looking to take the lead an continue their dominance against Pakistan in the upcoming ICC tournament. The World Cup starts on February 7 and the India-Pakistan match will be played on 15 February.
