South Africa batter David Miller has set his sights on winning the 2027 ODI World Cup on home soil. The veteran left-hander is hoping to end his international career with a major ICC title. The 2027 tournament will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October and November. Miller, 37, has been a key part of South Africa’s white-ball setup for more than a decade. He has scored more than 4,600 runs in 178 ODIs and remains an experienced option for the Proteas. Speaking to JioStar, Miller said, “Yeah, I am really looking forward to it (2027 World Cup). For me, it's a goal that I want to achieve. I would love to finish off late in my career with a trophy.”

The South African power hitter’s comments have come after the country’s difficult history in major ICC tournaments. The Proteas have repeatedly reached the knockout stages without winning the ODI World Cup. Miller was part of the side that reached the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final, where he scored an unbeaten century against New Zealand. He has also previously acknowledged the competition for places within South Africa’s talented batting group. “There's a lot of quality players coming through, there is also a massive pool of players to select from. I feel that I can add something unique to the team, which is my experience and expertise, but this conversation will unfold over the coming months,” the power-hitter said. With the 2027 World Cup being played in familiar conditions, Miller now hopes to finish his international journey by helping South Africa finally lift the ODI World Cup trophy.

David Miller set for ILT20 debut with Gulf Giants

David Miller will begin a new chapter in franchise cricket after joining Gulf Giants ahead of the fifth season of the International League T20. The South African batter is among the high-profile overseas signings confirmed for the tournament. Miller will make his ILT20 debut after spending years playing in major T20 leagues around the world. His experience as a middle-order batter and finisher could add significant strength to the Giants’ batting lineup. He has also continued to remain part of South Africa’s plans despite being left out of Cricket South Africa’s latest central contract list.

The South African’s move also comes at an important stage in his career, with the South African preparing for another major franchise challenge. The ILT20 season will run from November 22 to December 20, giving Miller a chance to play competitive cricket before South Africa’s 2027 World Cup preparations intensify. Gulf Giants have also signed Heinrich Klaasen, creating a powerful South African combination in their middle order. Both players are making their ILT20 debuts this season. The Giants will hope their experience can strengthen a batting unit that also includes returning overseas players Azmatullah Omarzai and Blessing Muzarabani. The franchise will complete its squad during the player auction in Dubai on October 1.
