According to the news reports from a host of established and credible publications, the test squad for India’s forthcoming Test tour to Sri Lanka is expected to be announced over the course of the next few days. At the moment, the Indian cricket team has just recently completed a long tour in the United Kingdom, which included 2- T20 internationals against Ireland played at Ireland that were followed by 5 T20 internationals held at England against the powerful Harry Brook led side and finally, the three match odi series. Unfortunately, though, not a lot went the visitors’ way as India crashed to defeats in every single one of those series’s.

Having said that, what now remains to be seen is how strongly can India build up its plans and preparations for the forthcoming tour to Sri Lanka that involves 2 Test matches.

It’s important to remember that there shall be no Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma on the tour as the dynamic duo had already taken their Test retirements and only ply their trade in the 50-overs limited overs format of the game.

The opening Test of the two match series is expected to begin from August 15 and shall be held at Galle in Sri Lanka.

While a lot is not known at this point of time, it is expected that the squad touring Sri Lanka is going to feature a blend of experience and young emerging talents.

While Shubman Gill shall be leading the charge of the side for the red ball tour, it is expected that noted batter and one with a lot of experience under his belt, KL Rahul will continue in his position as the vice captain of the side.

But having said that, here is what it’s important from an Indian point of view. It is expected that legendary fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will make a return to the Test side following his injury and Ravindra Jadeja could be touring Sri Lanka as well.

Not an awful lot is known at the moment about the current fitness situation of the injured Hardik Pandya. As one of India’s foremost talents across formats, he’s a cricketer whose services to the national side have been thoroughly missed, of lately. He was also absent as seen in the recent white ball contests that were played in England and was last seen in the 2026 edition of the IPL.

That said, the series offers a great chance to the hosts Sri Lanka to muster up strong performances as on their most recent Test duties, as seen in the two match series held in the West Indies, there wasn’t an awful lot that went their way.

After losing a test by an innings and over 200 runs to the West Indies at Antigua, they were able to largely draw confidence from the next test that ended in a draw.
