Cricket is never quite having an off day with several interesting contests and series’ giving the fans a touch of entertainment and top draw competition as we are well post the halfway stage of the year. And here is something that is both interesting and an element to look forward to!

Well, as it turns out, cricket, something that wasn’t always a part of the Asian Games event, is bound to happen once again as the famous Asia centric globally-followed event commences not long from now, in 2026. And it is expected that India could well contend for the top honours at the elite competition that is to also feature teams like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan among the others.

What is currently being reported is the fact that India are going to field a slightly different squad in the upcoming and exciting Asian Games to what is currently turning out in the T20 contests in the UK (with a series being held across England).

While for starters, it is being reported that while none other than Shreyas Iyer is currently leading the side, he might be given rest for this assignment. On other news on names that could make it to the Indian side for the soon-to-begin Asian Games 2026, it is expected that someone like Sanju Samson could continue to bide his time away from the side. He was, perhaps surprisingly and much to the massive disappointment of some fans, dropped from the team picked for Zimbabwe T20Is. One wonders, how the Kerala born batter would be feeling about that?

But on a more different note, someone like the big hitting and dangerous Rinku Singh could make a comeback for the side visiting Aichi-Nagoya in Japan for the Asian Games, 2026!

As and when more developments on the Indian side for the Asian games arrives, we shall keep up updated on the same. But having said that, from a cricketing perspective it’s perhaps important to note when was the sport first made a part of the competition.

This happened in 2010, and then in 2014 and 2023, after the sport missed being on the calendar in 2018.
