Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by eight wickets at the Cheapauk Stadium on Saturday in the Indian Premier League 2026. It was a comprehensive performance from the home side. Mumbai Indians opted to bat first and started brilliantly. They reached 100 at the end of 11 overs and were all set to post a massive total. CSK bowlers pulled things back brilliantly as they restricted Mumbai Indians to 159 at the end of the first innings. Chasing the target, Chennai Super Kings lost the wicket of Sanju Samson early but half centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Kartik Sharma ensured that they chased down the target comfortably.
MI- 159/7 (20) - Naman Dhir 57, Anshul Kamboj 3/32 lose to CSK - 160/2 (18.2) - Ruturaj Gaikwad 67, Jasprit Bumrah 1/20
Kartik Sharma: I wanted to stay till the end and finish the run-chase. The pitch was on the slower side and I played accordingly. I enjoyed all my boundaries. This is my first fifty. I had planned to do it (gun celebrations) if I play well.
Hardik Pandya | MI captain:
Not the season. They played better, they bowled better, they fielded better and they batted better. 180-190 should have been a good total. We couldn't get the momentum. It was more about playing calculative cricket. Overall, as a bowling unit, they were better and as a batting unit, we weren't better. The bowling options which we had, we went with it.
Ruturaj Gaikwad | Player of the Match:
Feels good. We started really well, first couple of overs, they got a momentum after that and we pulled it back. It was about getting through the first couple of overs and then it was about one of the top three staying there. He is someone who is keeping it really simple, sticking to the process and his mind is thinking like a batters mind. Noor has made some adjustments and come along really well. (on not playing Akeal) We thought about how to get the balance right, how to get a batter at eight and the extra bowler. Veer and Ghosh are someone who can contribute with both, they give extra cushion in the batting and bowl a couple of overs as well. Feels good to be there till the end. As I always saying, I was feeling well, feeling confident, but it is T20 cricket. I have been in a good frame of mind and it was only a matter of time
Chennai Super Kings have moved to the sixth spot in the points table after this win. It was an excellent performance in all facets of the game. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians are almost out of contention and will need a huge turnaround from here for something to happen. They have a lot of questions to answer going forward in this season.
