Sameer Rizvi turned heads when in 2024 IPL Mega Auction he was acquired by Chennai Super Kings at a whooping 8.40 Crores. But his stint with CSK didn’t go as expected. He just scored 51 runs in 8 innings leading to release by CSK. Then in IPL 2025 he was bought by Delhi Capitals at just 95 lakhs. He had a decent season with 121 runs in 8 innings and an unbeaten 58 for DC yet was retained by Delhi for IPL 2026.
In his first game against LSG, Sameer played a blistering knock to take his team to a win. DC was 21/2 at a point when Rizvi came in and scored a 70 not out in 47 balls to finish the chase in 17 overs. Abdul Samad top-scored for LSG with a 25-ball 36, while opener Mitchell Marsh made a 28-ball 35 after the home side were asked to bat first. For DC, Natarajan grabbed three wickets for 29 runs, while Ngidi also took three for 27. Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with two wickets. DC had a collapse in powerplay with Naqvi and Nitish Rana falling early. They were at 26/4 at a point with Axar Patel too departing early.The usually aggressive Stubbs took a backseat for a change as he and Rizvi went about resurrecting the DC chase. Stubbs hit a four off the very first ball he faced while Rizvi, incredibly, took as many as nine deliveries to get off 0. The first sign of him settling in came when he ramped Anrich Nortje’s last delivery in the eighth over above deep third for a six and then there was no looking back.
