The Mumbai Indians will play their second match against the Delhi Capitals today at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. But before the match begins, let's take a look at the three Mumbai Indians stars who are paid more than Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma is not only the star batter of the team but also the captain who has won 5 titles for the franchise. Sharma was bought by the franchise in the 2011 IPL Mega Auction for 9.2 Crores. Brought in as a batsman, Sharma was handed the captaincy of the team in the mid-tournament of 2012, when the Australian player, Ricky Ponting, stood down as the skipper.

However, post the 2025 IPL Mega Auction, Sharma is not the highest-paid player of the team. It is the generational talent, Jasprit Bumrah, who was retained for 18 Crores, followed by Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, who share the same spot and were retained for 16.35 Crores each.

Rohit Sharma is the third-highest-paid player in MI.

Rohit Sharma was, however, retained at 16.30 Crores, an amount he believed was perfect for him. Having retired from T20 Internationals (T20Is) in June 2024, Rohit believed that players currently representing the national team in that format should receive preference. He described the fourth retention slot as the "perfect spot" for him at this stage of his career. Along with Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit reportedly agreed that Jasprit Bumrah should be the highest-paid player (₹18 crore) due to his consistent importance to the team.

Mumbai Indians (MI) officially announced their retentions for the IPL 2025 season on 31 October 2024, which was the deadline day for all ten franchises to submit their lists. The list was made public during a live special broadcast on JioCinema and Star Sports that began at 4:30 PM IST. MI also shared the news simultaneously through their official website and social media handles. The announcement was framed around the "One Family" core, highlighting the retention of five Indian stalwarts to maintain team continuity.
