The 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League is set to kick off this week and the excitement around the competition is very high. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match of the season which is set to be played on 28th March. 1.Varun Chakravarthy - Kolkata Knight Riders
The mystery spinner will be one of the top candidates to win the purple cap this season. The KKR star bowler has been excellent in the last few years and is also ranked the Number 1 T20I bowler in the world currently. Varun has picked up 100 wickets in his IPL career and is a wicket-taking bowler in the middle stages of the game. He will be among the race to the purple cap in this edition.
2.Mitchell Starc - Delhi Capitals
The left-arm pacer from Australia Mitchell Starc, representing the Delhi Capitals,will be another top candidate to be the highest wicket taker in this edition. Starc will bowl with the new ball and at the death which gives him plenty of opportunity to pick up wickets. He is also very good when it comes to swinging the ball so he will be in and around the top wicket takers list in this season.
3. Jasprit Bumrah - Mumbai Indians
The right arm pacer is one of the best pacers in the world and can bowl at any stage of the game. He was so critical for India in the recent 2026 WT20 where he picked up plenty of wickets. Jasprit Bumrah has been a trump card for Mumbai Indians and despite not having won the purple cap before, he is someone who cannot be written off. Jasprit Bumrah is probably bowling at his peak currently and that makes him a genuine contender for the purple cap this season.
