We are getting to the year end and it is that time of the year once again when Google gives an analysis of the top searches made in the year. The company has released a separate report on the top searches in India and, unsurprisingly, cricket searches were among some of the most popular terms. As per Google data shared on Thursday, Indian Premier League (IPL) was once again the most searched term in India. Apart from this, trending sports events like the ICC Champions Trophy, Asia Cup, Pro Kabaddi League and Women’s World Cup were also among the top searched terms. Indian Premier League stood out once again and this could even be due to Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning their maiden title in 2025.
Asia Cup 2025 Ranked second in top searches on Google in 2025
This was a tournament which was marked by controversies off field and India won the tournament. It was also the first time India and Pakistan faced off three times in an Asia Cup tournament. The India–Pakistan clashes were overshadowed by controversy rather than cricket. Pre-match tensions began with captains skipping the customary handshake, reportedly on the match referee’s instruction, before India’s players walked off without post-match handshakes, triggering a protest from Pakistan and even boycott threats. Pakistan’s players inflamed matters with provocative celebrations, including Haris Rauf’s “6-0” gesture and Sahibzada Farhan’s gunshot-style reaction, both earning sanctions under the conduct code. Even after the conclusion of Asia Cup 2025 there were still some controversy as India did not get the trophy after winning it.
According to Google Trends’ ‘Year in Search 2025’, 14 yeard old Vaibhav Suryavanshi topped India’s list of most-searched personalities. He rose to fame with his performances in the IPL 2025 for Rajasthan Royals and also has done well in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup going on to break plenty of records this year. Few other players who were also among top searched include Priyansh Arya, Abhishek Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues. Surprisingly, Shaik Rasheed, a 21-year-old from Guntur, also featured in the top five. Women’s World Cup winners Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana were in the top 10, while senior batter Karun Nair, India’s U19 captain Ayush Mhatre too made the list.
