Shreyas Iyer opened up on being appointed as India’s newest T20I captain and said that it is an honour to represent the country at this level. The BCCI named Iyer as the new name to lead the Men in Blue in the shortest format, succeeding Suryakumar Yadav. Not only does this mark a new beginning for Iyer, but also a grand welcome to the side after missing out on almost two years of T20I action. Iyer’s first assignment as the captain of the side would be the forthcoming tour to Ireland before visiting England and the 2026 Asian Games.

Iyer, who is currently leading the SoBo Mumbai Falcons in the T20 Mumbai League, revealed his feelings after being named as the Indian captain. “It’s a great feeling. It’s also an honour to represent the country at this level and leading them.”
