The son of the Australian legendary spinner Shane Warne, Jackson Warne stated that he nearly blamed the government for the death of his father. Shane Warne passed away on March 4, 2022 while he was on vacation in Thailand. He believed that the Covid-19 vaccine did have a role in the sudden death of his father in 2022. Jackson Warne had mentioned this in an interview on the 2 Worlds Collide podcast released in April 2026.
“And at the state memorial, I nearly actually said, ‘I blame the government, I blame COVID’, but I didn’t. And it’s probably smart I didn’t. I would probably be in a very different position if I did, but that was how I felt. And so even the last three, four years when it’s come up in conversations, I have not changed my tune. Obviously at the end of the day, we’ll never ever know. The autopsy is there and people can go online and look at it and I know what’s happened to him. But dad at the time, he was healthy, he was happy, he actually looked the best he’d looked in a while," said Jackson Warne.
Legacy of Shane Warne revisited as claims face scrutiny and questions remain unresolved
Jackson Warne had stated that he knew that his father had underlying health issues but he firmly believed that the Covid-19 vaccine had worsened the situation. His immediate reaction to his father’s death was to blame the government for the vaccine. Jackson Warne had also claimed that his father was forced to receive multiple doses of vaccination but Shane Warne didn’t entertain the idea. He also revealed that he had thought about publicly speaking on the matter during his father’s state memorial service at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He added that he no longer feels that his view is controversial anymore.
However, Jacson Warne’s complaints weren't exactly supported by any solid proof as Shane Warne’s medical reports suggested otherwise. The official post mortem report that was conducted in Thailand confirmed that he died of natural causes due to congenital heart disease. Medical experts have also confirmed his history of heavy smoking and drinking which were also factors that contributed to the sudden death. His family associates also reported that Shane Warne had shortness of breath and chest pains prior to his trip to Thailand.
Shane Warne is considered as one of the greatest leg-spin bowlers of all time as he has broken an immense amount of records. He was the first player in the history of Test cricket to reach 700 wickets and currently sits second on the all-time list behind Muttiah Muralitharan. Shane Warne was also a successful leader as he led the Rajasthan Royals to a historic triumph in the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008.
Jackson Warne at the end of the interview also said that he would never know what is the exact cause of the sudden death of his father but as of now he still firmly believes the impact of the vaccine played a crucial role.
