Jacob Oram has played in the Indian Premier League and he knows the atmosphere there. Whereas it is his first time coaching in the Pakistan Super League and he is enjoying his time out there with the players and staff.
During a press conference in the Pakistan Super League, a reporter asked Jacob Oram his thoughts regarding a controversial comment by the South African cricketer, Rilee Rossuow. The Proteas batter stated that the IPL is more of a movie rather than actual cricket as it is comparatively longer and involves a lot more money. Jacob Oram bursted into laughter when he heard the question and such questions regarding the IPL-PSL comparison are never ending.
However in the Indian Premier League, so far no reporter has even taken the name of Pakistan Super League. Such comparisons need not be made as each franchise cricket league is good and efficiently conducted with the given resources and conditions.
Another day, another question about the IPL in the PSL 2026. This is getting embarrassing now, how hard is it to ask journalists not to bring up the IPL? Even Jacob Oram was laughing today. pic.twitter.com/zNt2CYe40m

Scale, resources and competitiveness set IPL apart while PSL thrives on passion and emerging talent
"Did you say 'like a movie'? [Chuckles] Look, it’s an interesting way to put it. I hadn't heard that one before. I think both leagues have their own identity. The IPL is obviously a behemoth; it’s a massive production, and the scale of it is undeniable,” said Jacob Oram, the assistant coach of Islamabad United.
Oram offered more of a balanced response as he didn’t claim either of the leagues to be superior. The Indian Premier League is the richest franchise cricket league in the world and is valued at $18.5 billion. Foreign players from across the globe participate in the league and it is deemed as the most competitive league in the world. Currently, only players from Pakistan and Bangladesh are restricted from participating in the league. The biggest names of world cricket are more inclined to participate in the Indian Premier League due to the participation of Indian players and the amount of money that is involved in the league.
"But here in the PSL, the passion is incredible. The bowling standards are world-class. If some see the IPL as a movie because of the glitz and the length of the tournament, that’s their view. For us, we’re just focused on winning games here. But the 'movie' comment... yeah, that gave me a good laugh,” added Jacob Oram.
The Pakistan Super League is a similar yet different league in terms of the competitiveness and the money involved. The league consists of Pakistani players and the foreign players are usually veterans of the game or unsold players of the IPL auction. The league was impacted with the oil crisis this year as they have only two venues that are Lahore and Karachi. The games are being held behind closed doors as the government has urged the PSL to be conducted without an audience to avoid logistics and audience. Despite the league being severely affected with their resource constraints, they are able to conduct a really good league and offer a stage to the Pakistani youngsters.
However such comparisons emerge only due to the rivalry between the nations as if the rivalry is kept apart, there is no real intention behind the comparisons. The difference exists between the leagues in only two factors : the available resources and the level of competitiveness that the respective players bring into games.
