In a recent interview with ANI, West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder praised Shubman Gill's captaincy at Gujarat Titans (GT), stating that the young leader "leads by example". Holder noted that Gill’s consistent performances on the field naturally motivate the rest of the team. Holder described Gill as a "dominant force" whose professional approach "exudes into the team".their leader performing at such a high level, they have "no choice but to try to fall in line".Gill’s structured preparation and professionalism were cited as the "secret" to his success.
Interestingly, Holder mentioned feeling the "most settled" he has ever been in T20 cricket, credited partly to the welcoming and open environment Gill and the GT management have fostered. Holder highlighted a "bouncing ideas" culture where he has had deep technical chats with players like Washington Sundar and Shahrukh Khan, showing that Gill encourages horizontal leadership where experience is shared regardless of age.
“I think Shubman leads by example. When you look at his performances, you know, he's our leader batter… The way he goes about his business, he is the dominant force, and I think that exudes into the team, and the team is able to pick up on that energy. Seeing him leading by example, we have no choice but to try to fall in line, you know, and everybody's not going to perform on every given opportunity…”, the player said.
GT loses against Mumbai Indians
Last night, Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a dominant 99-run victory over the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match featured a historic performance by Tilak Varma, who scored his maiden IPL century to help MI snap a four-match losing streak. Mumbai Indians posted a formidable 199/5 after a shaky start where they were reduced to 46/3 by Kagiso Rabada's (3/33) early burst. Varma hit an unbeaten 101 off 45 balls, equalling the record for the joint-quickest century by an MI batter. He exploded in the final six overs, scoring 82 runs in just 23 balls.Naman Dhir contributed a crucial 45 (32) to stabilise the innings during the middle overs.
Chasing 200, GT never found momentum. Jasprit Bumrah set the tone with a wicket on the very first ball, and GT was eventually bundled out for exactly 100 in 15.5 overs.
