The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has been an eye opener for many. A lot of elite players have gone through reality checks because of a dip in form. One such player is England’s premier top order batsman Jos Buttler who is struggling to get a good score at the World Cup and has experienced a series of low and unsatisfactory scores.

Buttler, who has always been regarded as one of the finest batters to have ever graced the game, is struggling big time to get consistency. He has not scored a single big score at the T20 World Cup and has somehow managed to rack up only 62 runs in six innings so far. Buttler has scored 26 (17), 21 (14), 3 (4), 3 (4), 7 (14), and 2 (3) at the World Cup with an average of 10.33 and a strike rate of 110.71.

These numbers don’t justify the type of player Jos Buttler is. No one would believe that these stats belong to Buttler who has ruled white ball cricket for a very long time. The English man is considered to be one of the most lethal and feared openers in the shortest format of the game purely because of his aggressive instincts and ability to perform under pressure, but things haven’t panned out correctly this year.

Buttler has himself admitted that he is ‘frustrated’ with his run of form at the World Cup. He also said that maybe he is trying a bit too hard and needs to be relaxed on the pitch.

"I'm a bit frustrated, to be honest. I think maybe I’m trying a bit too hard, as opposed to just being a bit relaxed at the crease and letting it happen. The first two games, I got in, 20-odds, and not managing to go on and make those telling contributions is frustrating. And then a couple of low scores against Scotland and Italy. In T20, you want to be positive and get on with it, but I made a couple of mistakes and got out. It's just trying to remember the things that you do well at your best and trying to take each game as it comes." said Buttler on his For the Love of Cricket podcast.

The Gujarat Giants’ opener has been backed by England’s skipper Harry Brook who is not worried about Buttler’s form because he is a proven matchwinner.

“Not concerned, he is a powerhouse, arguably our best white-ball player ever,” he told the host broadcaster. “(He is) lacking a bit of confidence at the moment, but I would rather he starts like this and finishes with a flourish.” said Brook during the post match press conference after the win against Sri Lanka.
