Despite retiring from
International cricket for quite a few years now, Kevin Pietersen continues to be a subject of rich intrigue for the cricket world and its fans. His plain speaking approach and on point match analysis have held him in good stead in the eyes of the passionate cricket fan. That’s Kevin Pietersen for you.
And recently, the former England cricketer made an interesting bit of observation connecting his cricketing career, the lack of England representation and the IPL.
Kevin Pietersen has claimed that his international career with England cricket team was cut short due to his support for the Indian Premier League, alleging that it led to tensions with the cricket establishment.
Speaking candidly, Pietersen said he made “big sacrifices” that ultimately cost him his place in the national setup at the age of 33, despite having more to offer.
“I made sacrifices, and they were big sacrifices. I lost my career because of it. 100%. It's the only reason why everybody went against me in that establishment,” Pietersen said.
The former England star, who played 104 Tests, believes he could have achieved significantly more had his career not been cut short. So what would you reckon. He, however, added more-
“I should have played 150 or 160 Test matches and gotten 12,000 or 13,000 runs. That’s what I should have got,” he added.
Pietersen also revealed a recent conversation with Jos Buttler, suggesting that the current generation benefits from the path he helped pave.
“I interviewed Jos Buttler a couple of weeks ago, and he also said, ‘Thank you.’ Because of all the sacrifices that I made, these guys can just have the fruits now,” he said.
The 45-year-old further alleged that the England and Wales Cricket Board used sections of the media to target him during that period.
