
Former English batter Kevin Pietersen has stepped down as mentor of Delhi Capitals side ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Kevin Pietersen joined the Delhi Capitals as a mentor for the 2025 edition and they did not have a great season as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. Kevin Pietersen confirmed this news on twitter as he took it to the social media platform to announce that there is a lot of time and commitment needed for the mentor role and that he would not be able to do it. He also said that while he steps down as mentor he will be in the IPL as a commentator. Watch his tweet here.

Kevin Pietersen revealed that the reason behind the decision was his inability to commit to the time that was required for the role. Delhi Capitals had a very strong start to the season and were at the top of the table till the halfway mark but they fell off in the latter stages as they finished fifth in the table and failed to qualify for the playoffs. They finished the tournament with 15 points, winning seven and losing six matches.
In his tweet he has mentioned that he will return to commentary duties. Before taking up the role as DC mentor, Kevin Pietersen was a regular in the commentary panel and has always said that he loves the IPL and that it is the best and biggest tournament in the world. In his tweet which he posted in Hindi, he mentioned the same.

The Indian Premier League starts on 28th March and the schedule is out for the initial games. The entire schedule might be released in the coming weeks. Delhi Capitals have not yet announced their mentor for the upcoming season and they will be keen to have a better season as they are eyeing their maiden IPL title.
