Chennai Super Kings are going through a dismal form from the previous IPL season, and though they hoped to start afresh, it seems that they have a long way to go to get back to momentum. In the first two clashes of the IPL 2026 season, the five-time champions suffered humbling losses, and fans as well as experts aren’t leaving any chance to question their choices. Recently, former Indian captain Kris Srikkanth questioned their decision of dropping Jamie Overton against Punjab Kings.

Srikkanth spoke on his YouTube channel and said, "I thought they would play Overton as he did well in the last match. I am not sure why suddenly Overton did not play.” He added, “He was your top scorer in the last match, so it's incomprehensible why he didn't play. It's actually absurd to not play him. The selection process and team combination were terrible today."

It is to be noted that Overton was one of the only well performing players in the squad against the Rajasthan Royals in their season opener. The Englishman came up with a 36-ball-43* to help the side reach the total of 127 runs. However, despite it, the Men in Yellow decided to not include him in the squad against the PBKS.

Srikkanth wants CSK to drop Prashant Veer and Rahul Chahar against RCB

The 1983 World Cup winning star requested the Super Kings to replace Kartik Sharma as well as drop the likes of Prashant Veer and Rahul Chahar in their forthcoming fixture against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He wants Veer and Chahar to be replaced by Jamie Overton and Akeal Hosein. "They played Karthik Sharma again. But once Brevis returns in the next match, Karthik Sharma will automatically be out,” Srikkanth said.

“Overton and Akeal Hosein should replace Prashant Veer and Rahul Chahar,” he added. Notably, Kartik has managed to score just 19 runs in two games while Veer could manage only six runs against PBKS. On the other hand, Chahar went wicketless against Punjab and went on to concede 46 runs.
