Not Australians, not really the English and not even the Bangladeshis or Pakistan players; several South African players currently make up the Major League Cricket, which is currently the main thing where it comes to the sport in all of the United States. As a matter of fact, here’s a bit of a context to tell you just how dominant are the South Africans in all of the Major League Cricket contests, where is stands at the moment. If anyone just wanted to know just how dominant a talent pool the South Africans are in the most coveted or prized among all T20 franchise contests in the United States, then look at this number- at the moment, around 15 South African cricketers are in action at the MLC in the US in its 2026 season.

And one among the most talented of them all has just recently done some damage in the tournament: the name is Lhuan-Dre Pretorius. And in a recent MLC contest that was held against the MI New York, the young and blistering left hander representing the San Francisco Unicorns struck a dominant and whirlwind 102 not out that came off just 52 odd deliveries. In response to being set a gettable and perhaps not so challenging 144 runs to win, the top order San Francisco Unicorns batter smoked 102 unbeaten runs taking just 52 odd deliveries to get to the target.  

In so doing, he not just remained unbeaten; but ended up smashing 10 fours and 5 sixes ending undefeated at a strike rate of over 190. His opening partner at the other end, Finn Allen, made 20. And in the end, the team nicknamed SFU ended up chasing a modest ask in just 15.4 overs. That’s about it.

However, for Lhuan-dre Pretorius, this moment had a lot of significance in that not only was this his first ever century in the ongoing Major League Cricket league, but his first T20 ton. Ever. After this latest and a first T20 century, his career run tally in the format stands next to an amassment of 1923 runs.

To get to an idea of the kind of impact that he’s had with the bat, it’s useful to know that Pretorius, in sensational form at the moment, has hit scores like the 66 against the Washington franchise and a dominant 87 against Seattle.

What’s rather remarkable is the very fact that in the very same tournament in which batters like Faf Du Plessis and Quinton de Kock are present, here is a relatively inexperienced batter from South Africa that’s creating headlines and big impact with the bat as only he can. Given Pretorius is just 20 and still very much a youngling in the game whose best days are ahead, it can be said that he’s doing so well.
