Indian pace bowler Mohammed Siraj met Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand in Hyderabad on Monday, marking their first interaction since Anand took charge as the state's police chief in May. Mohammad Siraj who currently serves as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), visited the DGP's office for a courtesy meeting. Inspector General (P&I) Gajarao Bhupal and DSP (Sports) Ramarao were also present during the meeting. The India pacer was appointed as a DSP in October 2024 after the Telangana government recognised his contribution to India's ICC T20 World Cup victory.
Siraj shared a post on Instagram which read, “It was a pleasure meeting Shri C.V. Anand sir, DGP, Telangana, and extending my best wishes as he begins his tenure as the Director General of Police. Grateful for the warm interaction, and wishing him continued success in serving the people of Telangana."
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had announced a government job and a residential plot for Siraj after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup. The state cabinet later approved DSP cadre Group-I posts for Siraj. The appointment was made possible after amendments to the Telangana (Regulation of Appointments to Public Services and Rationalisation of Staff Pattern and Pay Structure) Act, 1994.
Mohammed Siraj Eyes Comeback in Sri Lanka Tests
Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj has been out of the white ball side and he was last seen in action during India's one-off Test against Afghanistan, where he led the pace attack. In international career, Siraj has claimed 140 wickets in Tests, 76 wickets in ODIs, and 17 wickets in T20Is.
Mohammad Siraj was not part of India's recent tour of the United Kingdom. His absence was felt during the ODI series against England, where India's inexperienced pace attack struggled to make an impact and lost the series.
He has not been picked for the Zimbabwe tour and the pacer Siraj is now expected to return to international action in India's upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka which will start on August 15. With the series part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), Siraj's experience will be crucial as India look to improve their position in the standings in the WTC.
